Dortmund, 24 April 2024 – From 18 to 21 April 2024, Messe Dortmund was transformed into a vibrant centre for model making enthusiasts as INTERMODELLBAU, the world's largest trade show of its kind, welcomed the public to the fascinating world of miniature models, attracting visitors of all ages to Halls 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7. With a varied programme ranging from thrilling action shows to expert presentations and breathtaking demonstrations, the event offered a unique platform for people to share their experience and provide inspiration. Tens of thousands of models from across all disciplines in the world of model making and model sports were on display, while international exhibitors and guests created an exuberant and inspiring atmosphere. Whether experienced modellers, curious newcomers or looking for a family outing – INTERMODELLBAU 2024 had something for everyone and left people with unforgettable impressions.
“INTERMODELLBAU followed on successfully from last year's event. It wasn't just the inter-generational program of skills training and content aimed at young model makers that highlighted the diversity of the show – the special features, innovations and developments presented in the various segments are equally key components of our varied and international trade show offering,” said Sabine Loos, Managing Director of Westfalenhallen Unternehmensgruppe which owns and operates the Messe Dortmund venue.
Speaking from the industry's perspective, Steffen Kahnt, Managing Director of the German Toy Trade Association (BVS), emphasised: “Whether amateur modellers or speed thrill seekers, model making enthusiasts across a wide variety of segments really did get their money's worth at INTERMODELLBAU. Anyone for whom exciting new products or creative installations weren't enough had the opportunity to take part in the spectacular supporting programme and engage with others.”
Chief show organiser Sabine Loos added: “INTERMODELLBAU has established itself as a unique forum enabling the constant change and evolution of model making to be experienced directly. This is where vision and innovation meet. Participants also have the opportunity to take an active role in shaping the future. This isn't just a showcase for the latest technologies and the most creative ideas, it's also a lively forum for sharing and for inspiration.”
High exhibitor satisfaction at the show
The independent exhibitor survey was correspondingly up-beat again this year. A total of 86% of the 370 (approx.) exhibiting companies have already said they intend to be at INTERMODELLBAU again next year. Gebr. Märklin & Cie. GmbH summed it up well, saying: “The halls were always full from morning to night; the number of visitors in all age groups was truly impressive. Once again, INTERMODELLBAU has convinced and inspired us. “We're already looking forward to being here in 2025 as well,” said Eric-Michael Peschel, Head of Event Marketing at Märklin & Cie.
Around 90% of exhibitors said their expectations of this year's show were met or even exceeded. People especially highlighted the high visitor footcount, the excellent business opportunities during the four days of the show and the promising prospects for business after the event.
Theresa Silbereisen, Senior Marketing Director at LEGO GmbH, emphasised: “The LEGO Group is delighted to be here for the second time in a row at what is the world's largest model making and model sports show.
